Dreadlock Alien

British Performance Poet Dreadlock Alien (Richard Grant) visited GIS for 3 days last week. In Primary, he worked with Years 3 and 6 around the themes of identity and rights of the child to fit in with UN day. The children (and teachers!) had great fun creating their own poems around this topic and learning to beat box, with some children then performing in assembly. A great way to start the Talk for Writing poetry units!

Poem Dreadlock Alien wrote (using ideas form the students) and performed in assembly

Dreadlock Alien also worked with all of our Year 7 students to launch our Poetry Unit for English. The core message: poetry is cool! Did he achieve his objective in ensuring that all of our students were on board with this message? Absolutely!
